Six Months

 Henry turned half a year old on December 26th!!  Half a year!  How is that possible?!  I feel like he was just born.

Some highlights from Henry's sixth month:

•  Probably the most major milestone Henry met this month was sitting independently!  Just a few days prior to his six month birthday, he began sitting by himself, without needing to rely on propping himself up with his arms.  This new change allows him to sit and play with toys (and stick them in his mouth!) simultaneously.
• Henry also learned to pivot this month.  When he was lying on his belly propped up with his arms, he could turn himself around in a circle and check out the surroundings.
• Everyone is impressed with how close Henry is to doing a "sit-up" (i.e., sitting up from a lying down position).  He tries so hard to do it each time we change his diaper or clothes.  Now, we have to distract him with a toy to get through changings.
• Henry had his first real "belly laugh" this month.  He thought the plastic packaging from an outfit I ordered for him made the funniest sound!
• Henry began sucking on and tucking in his lower lip fairly frequently, which is an indicator of teething.
• He improved a bit in his nighttime sleeping routine, sleeping for a five hour stretch from 9:30-2:30.  After the 2:30 feeding, he typically fell back asleep until it was time to get up for the day.
• After much protest, Henry finally began sleeping in his crib again.  We had let him sleep in his swing while he was sick, and he was none too pleased to have to return to the crib.  It took awhile, but he got used to the crib.  He likes to have his doggie pacifier with him, and sometimes we let him fall asleep with his monkey pillow, and remove it once he's asleep.
• Henry's favorite toys this month were his toy drum set and keyboard, especially as he was able to sit up and bang on the keys/drums with both hands.
• Henry celebrated his first Christmas at the very end of this month!  He loved tearing into his gifts and tasting all of them.  He also saw his first snow on Christmas Eve.
• He loves looking out windows in our house, especially the window into the backyard.  He also enjoys banging his hands on the window as he watches the goings-on outdoors.
• Henry also loves to look at himself in mirrors and to bang on the the glass with gusto!
